2020-08-27 Lake Havasu Season Closer

8/27/2020 – Lake Havasu

It’s the last trip of the season!  Let’s end it with a bang!  …and we did.

Alan and Winni are holding strong as our havasu veterans but we have a fresh set of faces to close the season with us.  Erica and Heidi are back for their sophomore trip; that’s two in the same season!  (I think they like it.)  Vector alumni round out our cast with Orlando, Katie, Alea and Jack.  Orlando and Alea are the only ones that actually worked at Vector but the other two are just as cool so we let them in the club.  Also, a first for us, 2.5 dogs!  Clearly Miles is the 0.5 dog, but he has 2.0 times the attitude.  Zion is a Labradoodle and is not even a year old while Ellie is an Anatolian Shepard and Great Pyrenees mix that we think might be a year or two old but she was adopted so we don’t actually know.  We only took two dogs out on the boat at a time so things were still manageable but back at the house, it was woof city.

As with any trip with rookies, we had some new wakeboarders.  Luckily the winds were still the first morning out and we finally got in a sunrise session that was actually flat.  We capitalized on the great water conditions with a super long session.

Alan takes the fresh water since he replaced the touchscreen the night before. He also fixed the spare tire carrier two weeks prior with just a few hours of welding in the havasu heat.  So thanks again Alan.  Winni gets her first hand drag and her first switch 180 captured on film.  Jack has no problems getting up, despite it being a long time since he’s ridden last.  Orlando, Katie and Alea are all able to get out of the water in their very first sessions; nice work guys!  Holly takes some rare pulls and is showing great board control now.  Erica is back with a maniac drive to out ride me.  I’m pretty sure I got the highest jump and the biggest wipeout, but Erica stunned the boat with a styled out tail grab with some wicked air.

After all that was done, we decided to swap to wake surfing.  Erica and Orlando have zero issues getting up and finding the pocket.  Erica even let go of the rope and was able to stay in the pocket all on her own.  Lesson learned, be lighter or get a more buoyant surfboard.  Alan tried something new and was able to stand up by laying on his stomach like you would beach surfing.

Back to the house for a quick nap, lunch, grabbed a dog, grabbed a Heidi and headed back out for a floating extravaganza.  Copper Canyon was the place to be, because WE were there! ...and then several hours later, we were not there anymore.

Saturday was a big day, it was also matchy matchy shirt day!  We decide to go up to the sandbar since we haven’t been there since the first trip of the season.  We played some catch, took a bunch of pictures, some old ladies asked us for paisties, ate some dip and then bounced.

Alea brought her ‘A’ game today and she was leading the league in both number of drinks and best party pictures.  Let’s go take some party pictures at redrocks; and then we did.

You guys wanna see the pirate ship?  Let’s go to Pirate’s Cove and have everyone awe at the craziness which was the bow of our boat which not only had Alea, but also a now very pumped up Erica and a mischievous Holly.  It was quite the show for the boats lined up on the sand and that’s why there are no pictures on here of that, lol.  We end up finding a piece of shore for our boat and hang out for another hour or so. Somewhere in there, Heidi knocks the crap outta her knee but only finds it after we are home partying.

We end the season with another first, a float on the eastern bay of the Nautical Inn.  It’s right next to the Marina, so we don’t have to go far and burn a bunch of time going through Thompson Bay, we can still float and avoid the exhaust and seaweed of the channel, and there’s almost no boat traffic. I don’t know why we didn’t try this sooner, but it’s a fantastic Sunday float option.  We did get Ellie in the water for the first time; more like I tossed her in.  I don’t think she was a fan but didn’t seem to mind once she was out. Funny thing was that she wasn’t even fully wet after coming out since her fur is so thick. Either way, next time bring a life vest Ellie.

So that’s it folks! Our very first 5 trip season with Holly and the new boat, and she’s still excited for next season! Looks like she’s a keeper J
